Massive Heatwave Alert: Red Warning Issued by IMD for These Cities!

As India continues to experience record-breaking summer temperatures, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extreme heatwave conditions across several regions.

The alert, issued early this morning, covers Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Madhya Pradesh, with temperatures crossing 45°C in many cities.

🛑 Cities Under Red Alert Today (June 21, 2025):

  • New Delhi
  • Jaipur
  • Chandigarh
  • Lucknow
  • Bhopal
  • Gwalior
  • Varanasi
  • Hisar
  • Patna
  • Agra
  • Kanpur
  • Jodhpur

IMD officials advise people to avoid direct sunlight between 11 AM and 4 PM, stay hydrated, and use cooling measures even indoors.

“This is one of the most intense pre-monsoon heatwaves in the past decade,” said an IMD official in New Delhi.

🌍 Heatwave & Climate Change Impact

Climate experts link the increasing frequency and intensity of heatwaves in India to climate change and global warming. Rising global temperatures caused by carbon emissions, deforestation, and urban heat islands are directly impacting the Indian subcontinent.

📊 What Experts Say:

Average temperatures in India have risen by 0.7°C over the past century.

Extreme weather events like heatwaves, floods, and droughts are now more frequent.

Poor air quality and urban pollution make cities more vulnerable to heat stress.

Children, the elderly, and outdoor workers are at highest risk. In rural areas, farmers are facing crop failures and water scarcity, threatening food security.

“What we're seeing now is not normal summer. It's a warning sign of what’s coming if we don’t act on climate,” says Dr. Ramesh, a climate researcher.
